Raising Expectations “Live the Life You Want”

Mobile, AL National Federation of the Blind-Mobile Chapter’s Raising Expectations “Live the Life You Want” Walk is set to kick off on University of South Alabama’s campus on Saturday, April 22. The 1st Annual Raising Expectations “Live the Life You Want” Fundraiser walk will see hundreds of walkers circle the USA Intramural track and enjoy pre and post-event refreshments and entertainment at the USA SGA Pavilion located at 6450 John Counts Dr. Mobile, AL 36688. All proceeds from the walk will help nonprofit organization National Federation of the Blind-Mobile chapter provide education, training, and advocacy for members who are blind and visually impaired.

“Now more than ever our community’s support is essential because the funds raised will aid our efforts to not only nurture and educate blind consumers by ensuring they receive the opportunity to maximize their potential, but also to educate the public about blindness because blindness is only one of our many characteristics, and it does not define us or our future,” said NFB-Mobile chapter Secretary and Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, Tiffany Moore.

The event starts at 9:00 am sharp, check in and registration begins at 8:00. Walk T-Shirts will be available to registered participants. Walkers will receive free gift bags and have the chance to win prizes all while supporting the efforts of blind people in our community. Walking teams, those with strollers and wheelchair participants are all welcome. Drink and snack stations will be provided along the track. All children age 5 and under walk free. The NFB was founded in 1940 by Jacobus tenBroek, and is the largest consumer organization of the blind in America. The NFB ultimate goal is to help blind people achieve self-confidence and self-respect, and to completely integrate the blind into society on the basis of equality.
